"The Ontario Human Rights Tribunal ordered $5,000.00 out of [Mayor McQuaker's] pocket for declining an activist group's Pride Month proclamation request. The township of Emo was fined a further $10,000.00 by the tribunal in its November 2024 ruling — a fair bit of money for a township of only 1,200 people.
"The controversy began in 2020 when Borderland Pride asked Emo's council to declare June "Pride Month" and display the LGBTQ2 rainbow flag."*

This case from 2020 and 2024 is again in the news as the Canadian Constitution Foundation has been granted the right to intervene in a review / appeal of the OHR Tribunal decision of November 2024.
